Happenstance Photography 2024
In August of 2024, I went out for a second time to do the style of Happenstance Photography. This style includes approaching strangers you meet the day of and do a photoshoot upon meeting.
First I want to talk about my experience, when I first approached these strangers, I had first approached these two grandparents and a granddaughter about my age, I had asked them if they were together, once they said yes. I then proceeded and asked if they would love any free photos that I’m capturing for the day.
I was told no, however when the grandmother declined, she told me to not let the no to stop me from asking. And she was very uplifting and said how I should keep asking around, never to stop asking questions ((:
So I went on my way and walked to this area that I had a feeling that would be a good spot to find someone, and it was another movie moment! I glanced over and saw this guy, example of how he looked when I first saw him below:
After seeing him, I gained the courage and approached him while asking if I could take his photos for free and after editing that I would send them to him.
He was very open and super excited that I approached him, and even said I could post them on my social media afterwards! When I texted & sent them his way and he said this: “Thank you so much they are dopeeee”
I have more photos from this shoot, however for this part of the article these are all I will share. This person wanted to actually do more and collaborate more with me on future projects for their brand. I had to eventually decline because of life circumstances changing, and my focus shifting in caregiving ways.
Stranger 2 from the same day. Story time, during this time period the previous week I actually talked to this sweet stranger. I remember feeling bummed that I didn’t ask to take his photos that day!
Last week it didn’t feel right yet to ask him because he was eating lunch. So I thought to myself if I see him again I’m going to ask him! In the back of my mind, I thought about how making that connection is more important to me, however the photos are a plus!
When I saw him again, I sat down and got comfortable talking to him more so we can know one another better. I then asked if I could take his pictures after showing him some of the Stranger 1 photos that I had taken not ten minutes before talking to him ((:
He smiled and nodded yes. From there I took his photos and asked for his number so that I can send them to him. After he gave me his number and asked if he could call me everyday, which definitely was a sweet moment of “Omg yes!”, but I smiled and said “Maybe once a week at first”.(:
How can you not love this sweet smile?!?!?
Enjoy these photos as much as I did taking them!!! Including the Black & White ones first and then color hehe!
Doing this style photography brought out a this form of gratitude and knowing that anything is possible. Most times we are our only limits. This goes on to remind others that we are more than capable to do anything we set our minds to. As cliche as it might sounds to some people. You are what you think you are possible of doing.
